Distance Learning Update -- Pacifica High School
I wanted to reiterate the fact that due to changes in our public health environment, we have updated our return to school plan to move all courses to fully remote Distance Learning for Quarter 1.
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 26th.
Bell Schedule and Meeting Time:
Students will be enrolled in 3-4 courses during Quarter 1. Students will be involved in virtual class meetings every day with their teachers and will have assignments that they will complete independently every day.
Students can expect to meet with their teachers and classmates for a portion of each of their assigned periods utilizing the following bell schedule:
|Period 1||8:30 am||10:00 am|
|Period 2||10:08 am||11:38 am|
|Lunch||11:38 am||12:14 pm|
|Period 3||12:22 pm||1:52 pm|
|Period 4:||2:00 pm||3:30 pm|
Virtual meeting time will be used by teachers in a way that best supports the needs of the students and the nature of the course. Each class virtual meeting will begin at the start of the class period and students will be expected to login using Google Meet. A portion of the class time will be spent online as a class and a portion of time will be spent working independently. Teachers will communicate these time frames with their students.
Attendance and participation are mandatory despite the distance learning environment. Attendance will be taken every day by the teacher during the live class time. Students who miss the live class meeting, but who participate in the class activities later the same day by logging into their Class and working on assignments, will be able to digitally check in and be marked as present.
Student Schedules are currently available on Parent/StudentVue but are still being finalized by counselors. Teachers are preparing Staff Directory slides that students will access from the Pacifica High School website to link to their class’ Weekly Agenda. The Weekly Agenda will contain information regarding assignments, activities, and links to the live class meeting as well as the codes needed to join the Google or Canvas class.
Students will need to check their schedules on StudentVue and their teachers’ Weekly Agendas in order to link up with each of their class meetings. New Students will be trained in this procedure during Orientation and instructions will be posted on the PHS website.
It is important to check the PHS website and ParentSquare messages in order to keep up to date.
We are all working together to create the best learning environment we can given this very uncertain time.
