 Amgen Biotech Experience

Twenty-four students from Pacifica High School participated this year in the 5-day Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) Summer Camp, which took place from June 24-28.  Jocelyn White, science teacher, presented the content lessons to the students and worked in collaboration with two former Amgen scientists, Megan Verardo and Dan Baker, CSUCI professor Michael Abelsayed and Ventura College professor Jennifer Garner to plan and lead students through a week of hands-on lab experiences.  In its third year at Ventura College, the camp gave students the unique opportunity to learn and practice cutting-edge biotechnology lab skills while also learning about the opportunities offered at Ventura College.  The experience was free of cost to all participants, which was made possible by the generous support of the Amgen Foundation, the Biotechnology Program at Ventura College through the California Strong Workforce Program, New England BioLabs, and UNITE-LA (the lead organization of the ABE program).

Senior Sunrise-Class of 2020

Pacifica High School’s Senior Class of 2020 gathered at a local beach to start off the school year with a beautiful sunrise.
