ACADEMIC DECATHLON

On Satureday Feb 2, PHS held the Academic Decathlon. Mr. Lawrence has the privilege to proctor theses beyond brilliant minds. Way to go Tritons

PERFORMING ARTS NEWS

Pacifica High School’s vocal group, “Los JJ’s” performed on Radio Lazer’s “Cante/No Cante” show on Thursday, Jan. 31st.  Radio callers get to vote on whether their performance gets a thumbs up (cante) or thumbs down (no cante).  With unanimous thumbs ups, Los JJs have been invited to perform for Radio Lazer’s Cinco de Mayo festival.  Great Job, guys!

HEALTH SCIENCE ACADEMY

Brenda Valencia, R.N., spoke with both the Sophomores & Juniors on Friday, Feb 1st. She discussed Nursing school requirements & the career pathway to becoming an R.N. Brenda was a former Triton & an HSA member.

 

CODE ACADEMY

AVID

AVID freshmen & 3 juniors took a tour to CSUCI. We had a fantastic time.  We even ran into Stephanie, a 2018 PHS AVID graduate. Our tour guide, Alex, was an AVID student when she was in high school which was a great example for our kids. The campus was so pretty and green from all the rain. Many kids are excited to possibly attend this university. Thank you to Mr Lawrence for the bus & to Ms Guillen, Mr Calderon and Mrs Ramos for chaperoning.

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER NEWS

EAOP hosted a FAFSA workshop night last week in English and in Spanish for seniors and their families;  partnered with VC and will be hosting one tonight partnered with Cal Lu. 
Also, EAOP held an SAT academy for the EAOP Junior class held on Jan 26th and Feb 2nd. UCSB came out to provide the students with skills and strategies that are proven to help raise their scores.

COUNSELING NEWS

Happy National School Counseling Week!!!

Girls State Interviews were held on Wednesday, February 6th. 5 outstanding girls interviewed. Out of the 5 candidates, Celine Olague was chosen to be our PHS Delegate, who will represent us this summer. Marina Einstein was chosen as the 1st alternate and Laura Carmona is our 2nd alternate to attend the summer program, in the event openings become available. Girls State is a nationally recognized program that allows students the opportunity to learn about the workings, the structure, and the responsibilities of the state government, as well as about themselves. Approximately, 500 girls are chosen from all over California to attend this program per year. One student who attends Girl’s State will have the opportunity to attend Girl’s Nation, if chosen.

This week, counselors started to go out to the feeder schools. Counselors will be registering over 750 incoming freshmen. Parent night is scheduled on February 25th.

The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising visited Pacifica High School on Wednesday, February 6, 2019.  They presented to students who have an interest in a career in the fashion industry. FIDM discussed their programs available on their campus.

Josh Tirado, UCSB College Site Coordinator, hosted a 2-day SAT Academy in which 30 juniors participated. The first one was held on Saturday, January 26th and the second on Feb 2nd. A big thank you to UCSB for sending an SAT specialist to provide the students with strategies and tips on how to increase their scores.
