About the Social Science Department

The Social Science Department encourages academic success for all of our students and mastery of the California State Standards by utilizing diverse instructional methodologies, and authentic assessments that promote the ability to understand historical evidence and to develop the ability to analyze and express historical understanding. In addition, students will make connections between the past and present, develop critical thinking skills and become aware of their civic duties.

The Social Science Department at PHS strives to integrate the importance of academics, athletics and arts in order to create an environment that exudes respect, responsibility, caring, trust, fairness, and citizenship into rigorous daily curriculum that reflects historical and contemporary political, economic and social issues. Our goal is to empower students with the skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on the future.
